You get what you paid for. Urgent matters are dealt with by Oracle Support, for a hefty fee.

Since when is Oracle forward compatible, and should 8.0 know the internals of an 8i export file?!?

If you're lucky, you can export 8i using the 8.0 tools. Searching the archives would have given you this answer quicker.

You should also upgrade, upgrade, and upgrade. Oh - start thinking about the next upgrade, 9i Release 2 is almost EOS.
