Should not be a problem. If you encode *every* \n by \r\n, then reverse should bring you always back ( and vice versa). One can do it with tr equally well, no need to ftp, but for simplicity (or if tr is not available) this should do the trick. To be sure, md5 can be compared after such "double translation".
