Or... it is simply located at another location.

Any chance there is an oraInst.loc file at a non-default (/var/opt, /etc, assuming *ix) location? Then fire up the installer with the "-invPtrLoc" option, and point to the location of your oraInst.loc file.

Judging by the numbers, is this an EBS install?
