I have never had any big problems running any version of oracle on windows with zone alarm present. ( I am not a big fan of oracle on windows when most any kind of unix system is available but that's a different rant ).

Oracle "can't" circumvent a firewall. It's only software that makes calls thru the operating system(s) when doing network access etc.

Typically you will get prompted by zonealarm if such and such a program is allowed to access certain zones in your system, if it's allowed to act as a server, etc. Did you reply yes to these kinds of prompts for oracle XE and the various other pieces parts that come with XE?

Is it xp home that are running? I seem to recall some problems with oracle in regards to that but xp pro should be smooth. Check the readme and install docs that come with xe to see if you have a valid environment. Received on Mon Jan 08 2007 - 15:29:25 CST
