Not necessarily. I installed Oracle 10.2.0.2 on Solaris 8 and it worked perfectly. I did the same thing with Solaris 10 and it also worked perfectly. Solaris 10 has many goodies that Solaris 8 doesn't have (dtrace) but the sequence of upgrades is up to you. If I were you, I'd first keep my OS version and upgrade Oracle and I would upgrade the OS after the database, as this is definitely going to be a smaller problem. Do the hardest thing first.
