Well, the problem is solved. I deleted the database and server software. Instead, of taking all the defaults in the basic setup, I took all the defaults in the Advanced setup. So you must be right that there is an error in the setup defaults. I have run the database for three days now without any errors. I will also be passing this information along to Oracle Support. Thanks for your help!
