I used the standard installer and I keyed in the password for SYS and SYSTEM there, so I guess this is not the problem. Also if I stop and restart the DB it works.

How can I retrieve the SID... I told you I'm a real beginner...

I think this problem is about some other service starting very slow (Network?) and Oracle not being able to start propertly. As I told before, after booting if I stop and restart Oracle DB, it start working ok...

I forgot to mention I have also Oracle Application Server installed on the same machine...
