JB, I am not aware of anything recent where authors "outside of the oracle documentation" wrote a book in that product area. ( Anyone else ? ).

Oracle documentation has improved significantly in the last 10 years.

Authors are still writing books and trying to make money with technical content beyond that supplied by oracle but it's not as easy as it used to be. You have to really provide quality material that is above and beyond the oracle product documentation ( or try to rely on your own publishing house ) to succeed.
