It is perfectly valid. Mladen can have a copy of RedHat Enterprise Linux anytime he wishes and work spend his time learning to what will directly translate into the real world.
You are correct that RHEL won't prevent all of these problems. But having an RHEL sandbox means you are more likely to have confronted the issue before, recognize it, dealt with it, and know how to quickly and efficiently fix it.
