Being precise is great. Describing to someone how to build an atomic clock when the person asks what time it is probably does not help - or so I have been told when I write up lengthy document for internal circulation.

As hpuxrac indicated, Tom Kyte does refer to an instance as a "database instance" in some of his articles and at least his last book. Samples: http://www.apress.com/ApressCorporate/supplement/1/10008/1590595300-2994.pdf   pg 49, pg 50, pg 52, pg 61(twice)

I like to think that I am developing a photographic memory to help remember the wide range of technology documentation that I read (Oracle documentation, Fanuc CNC controller documentation, programming books, packaged application documentation, etc.). Unfortunately, the camera currently only supports JPEGs captured at 640x480 resolution. Fine details sometimes get lost, which can be a problem when people expect to receive a detailed description of how to build an atomic clock.

I am happy to see when any of the experts on this group help to fill in the fine details of some of my posts, which not only provide the OP with a better answer, but also help me remember the fine details.
