I'm going through the Data Guard Manual today... Oracle Data Guard Concepts and Administration, 10g Release 2 (10.2) B14239-04

Now I'm reading chapter 3:
Creating a Physical Standby Database

One of the main ideas in the chapter is: 'Use RMAN to copy your data from the primary to the standby'

So, that sounds like a good idea.

The chapter makes no mention about ORACLE_HOME on the standby?

What is the best practice for creating ORACLE_HOME on the standby?

tar, scp, then untar?

I know that will work with Oracle 8 but I'm worried that hostname dependencies are baked into ORACLE_HOME with 10g.
