The ANSI/ISO SQL Standard has included a BOOLEAN datatype since 1999 but it isn't widely supported. The SQL version is a fudge because of the conundrums inherent in 3-valued logic. The perceived defects of their approach maybe explain why it hasn't been implemented by the major vendors.
