Fair enough - just do remember that I have been working with Oracle for 3 weeks. No prior experience.

> Where in this post is version information?
This is for Oracle 10g 10.2 (enough info?)

> Where in this post is information on the nature of the backup?
Nature of the backup is part of my question. If I am wanting to create a backup that I can use to restore to a new host, what would be the full syntax for the backup command.

> Where in this post is the actual error message?
Well this changes frequently. It isn't so much of an error message that is the problem as it is my lack of knowledge. I am attempting to restore data from a backup I created on to a new host. I am using a walk through I found on the internet. The walk through does not include what to enter for the backup command and I end up with insufficient backups to restore. Missing logs, or not backed up in a way that RMAN can use them.

> Where in this post is the script used to create the backup?
That is one of my questions. What script should I use to get a complete back up that I can relocate to a new host.

> Where in this post is the script used to perform the restore?
http://www.orafusion.com/art_rman3.htm

Hope that is enough information.

Thank you,
