One man's large database is another man's small tablespace...... :)

Have you looked at Transportable Tablespaces? Since you are changing platforms, you will have to upgrade to 10g first since Solaris SPARC is big-endian and Solaris x86 is little endian. But this will let you perform the platform switch much quicker than exp/imp.
