Typical for Oracle Support. My "conversations" typically go like this:
Me: I have a problem. I'm pretty sure that it is not X because if I do
operationA and operationB, I can prove it is not X.
Oracle Support: Have you tried to do operationA? That might fix your
problem.
Me: If you've read my Service Request, you can see that I already tried
operationA but I still have the problem.
OS: Can you send me a copy of the Alert Log?
Me: The alert log was already uploaded, as you can see, the only thing
in the Alert Log are log switches. What does that have to do with X?
OS: Researching your problem....
(3 days pass)
OS: Have you applied patchset a.b.c.d? There is a bug which appears to
address your problem and it is fixed in that patchset.
Me: It should be obvious from the form that I filled out to open this SR
that I have applied that patchset. In fact, I am one patchset above that
one!
OS: Researching your problem...
3 more days pass and I typically employ a workaround to get things up and running.
I once had Support ask me more than a month after I opened a SR to send them more recent trace files. Apparently, the trace files I sent to them when I opened the SR were not "fresh" enough. I uploaded the same exact trace files as I initially had and they were able to use those! Nice!!!
Cheers,
Brian
