Sorry. 8.1.7.x is too far back for me to recall. There are a myriad of such bugs/issues for 9.2 and 10.x involving dmsys, mdsys and java where schemas have been removed or objects dropped.

I think that I recall something similar related to a java longname call not resolving properly.

Check bdump, cdump and udump for trace files and clues, and open a service request.
