You are absolutely correct. And when there are people who have done this they will write something indicating they have read the docs and don't understand a specific sentence or paragraph and provide a link to it.

Often the questions that are asked are answered, with great clarity, in books, at tahiti.oracle.com, at docs.oracle.com, at asktom.oracle.com, etc. If someone posts a link or reference to what they have been reading and ask for help understanding it ... that helps us help them and also is a clear indication that they put some amount of effort into self-help.
