David answered the question beerora asked, but Sybrand answered the more
fundamental one that beerora didn't ask but appeared obvious in the original post. And more fundamental questions are more serious for your employer and anyone who works for your employer.

In other words, he needs someone who knows the basics of Oracle administration, the consequences of not having such a person are more serious to the business than, say, having a receptionist who doesn't know how to work the phones. We've seen over and over what happens in situations where someone is trying to learn administration the hard way. Irritating as you may find Sybrand's answer and manner, it is all

too correct, and there really is no polite way to say it that anyone pays attention to. In the final analysis, the finger points at management, so don't take it too personally. Unless, of course, you or beerora
made sure you got hired instead of someone who knows about what you guys are
doing.
