Personally, 0.5TB is not that huge...I have tables that are pretty close 0.5TB in size.

As others have said, the size of the database does not determine the kernel parameters. Rather it is the usage of that data. Please refer the the Oracle docs for setting up your Linux kernel. The following URL goes right to the section in quesion:
