There's a difference between regular scripts and embedded commands?

Anyway, it's a 10g server installation.

If you've got links to articles that explain the dangers or flash-points, I'd appreciate it.

Defintiely sounds like a bit of push-back beacuse one of the DBA's said that the permissions are directly from the installation configuration, and internal things might break.
