Couple of comments:
* The product name is Websphere Information Integrator * The product uses DRDA to talk to DB2 iSeries and the regular Oracle Client to connect to Oracle (although it can use ODBC as well).

Do you do cross product joins? Like joining a table from Oracle with one   from DB2 iSeries? These sorts of things are WS II's strength since it knows the capabilities of the target databases and does distributed optimization.
