Oracle 5 for DOS can't do without a protected mode manager (which comes, IIRC, with the product).
If VMware doesn't work with the PME, this is a futile exercise.

Why do people insist in staying in the Paleolithicum??? There is no reason why your Oracle 5 app won't work under 10g!!!
