3dns is a host based naming. Oracle has something called Oracle Names but I believe they are replacing that with ldap. I do know ldap is what Oracle is pushing. I have never used/configured it so I do not have much to share with you about it.

I do know if you use the service name with a failover configuration on the client side the connections will fail over. If you use the ORACLE_SID or SID in tns it will not. Received on Thu Jun 29 2006 - 08:18:22 CDT
