Applying patches to an Oracle database will require a shutdown of the database and then you will have to run a script to update the Data Dictionary.

For the ORA-600 error, you'll have to refer to Oracle's support site, Metalink (http://metalink.oracle.com) to see which patch or patchset will fix your problem.
