I'll review those - but the environment I'm in has been run this way for longer than I've been around in it. So I'd have to make a case for it if I wanted to change anything like that. But, it may well make perfect sense.

Having said that, we are ramping up on a consolidation project, which will see us go to 10g (albeit under Windows - yuck), and I think every database maintenance task we have will need to be scrutinized or re-thought entirely once we're there.

Ah, I don't mind _saying_ something stupid, because at least I can take it back or correct myself, and maybe have to eat a bit of crow. It's _doing_ something stupid that I dread. Thankfully, I think I've gotten through the initial DBA gauntlet without having caused any catastrophes. I recall a story about one of my predecessors who dropped a tablespace and deleted the data files before realizing she was in Prod instead of Dev.

Thankfully, I haven't had to recover from a cock-up like that. Bad day all around. ;-)
