TKPROF elapsed time

Have a batch job that takes approx 4 hours elapsed. When traicng, and running through the TKPROF utility I noticed that the total elapsed was well off the mark (ie > 1 hour less than the actual). Bit of a stupid question, but what details are included in TKPROF, when it repots the total elapsed time, and what is missing, which would total the actaul elapsed.
