OracleDataReader silently converting Timestamp to DateTime

Does anyone know why OracleDataReader might be converting Oracle time
stamps to DateTime?  I'd like to be able to do dr.GetOracleTimeStamp()
but the call fails as the underlying type is being reported as a
DateTime.
