Materialized View Question

Hi Everyone,

I'm showing my ignorance here. But, when we create a materialized view in one schema that is off of a table in another schema, it not only creates the materialized view, but it also creates a local table.

I'm unclear why. The source table is in another schema, why create a copy of the table in the current schema where the view is located??
