Physical standby database cannot close the gap (if any gap exists)

Os info: 	IBM AIX 5.2
Oracle info: 	Oracle EE 9.2.0.7

Alert file of physical standby database complains about a gap in the archived logs but the archived log is not missing, it is there where it is supposed to be. No records from v$archive_gap. Standby db is not moving forward and is far behind, it does not continue to apply logs any more.
Any ideas ?
