There's a simple process for _upgrading_ edition in-place (Standard->Enterprise) by running a specific set of scripts (see Metalink, there's a Note explaining the procedure).

However, _downgrading_ (Enterprise->Standard) requires a full export and import into a freshly created lower-edition database.
