Jack,

If you're in the mood for internals, this site has several presentations:

http://juliandyke.com/ - click on "Presentations".

http://julian.dyke.users.btopenworld.com/com/Presentations/IOTInternals.ppt

Steve Adams is an expert on Oracle Internals. He gave a one day presentation at Hotsos Performance Tuning Symposium in March 2004 that covered physical storage in detail (hundreds of block dumps).
He has the following page up on his website: http://www.ixora.com.au/tips/table_column_order.htm

OraFAQ has this article:
How can one dump internal database structures? http://www.orafaq.com/faqdbain.htm#TRACING

If you're really interested in examing blocks in native form, search the Oracle-L list at freelists.org. If I give you any more info on this
- Mladen will strike me down.
