Changing database connect identifier in ejb-jar.xml on AS10g R2 P2

We are running AS10g on Solaris 9 (SPARC) to deploy a web app. We used to change the DB connect identifier in the ejb-jar.xml file, restart the home, and the change would persist. For some reason, we can no longer do this. If we change databases (e.g, dev --> test) in the xml file, and restart the home, the old database is still used. Is this information cached anywhere? The only workaround is to completely rebuild the app each time we change DB's. We used to have this problem with Windows, but it doesn't make sense that we would have it with UNIX. Any help would be appreciated.
