I don't think there was AIX 5.2 when Oracle 8.1.7 hit the market, or even when it was desupported.
You need to verify on Metalink whether 8.1.7 is certified against AIX 5.2.
My bet is it isn't.
In that case you are on your own, and you urgently need to upgrade to 9.2 at least.
