We use RAW here. There is more admin overhead using RAW but if you don't have a rapidly growing database it is definitely worth considering. ( Then again once you go through rman consistently RAW management issues are reduced compared to "the dark ages" ).

Oracle is pushing ASM and it's certainly something to consider, especially for people with large number of databases and/or databases that are growing rapidly in size.

But there is ASM overhead ... oracle doesn't even want to talk much about overhead and throughput implications of ASM versus RAW.
