missing oratab

Hello,
I am trying to configure an snmp agent that queries oracle instances for performance data.
in this agent i must specify oratab and ORACLE_HOME no probs with ORACLE_HOME it is
ORACLE_HOME=/ora8/m01/app/oracle/product/8.1.7

but oratab is missing!!!
find / -name oratab -print
oracle is running and working OK.

root_at_sun18 # uname -a
SunOS sun8 5.9 Generic_118558-14 sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Blade-100

crikey what can i do now? I thought oratab was essential..
