You may have downloaded the Oracle Database 10g Release 2 Express Edition (XE). In this case it will be totally free to deploy into production. The limits are: it will not permit use of more that 1GB RAM, more than 1 CPU or more than 4GB of user data (including indexes, etc.)
You may have downloaded Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (Personal, Standard Enterprise) edition. If so, you would have agreed to the 'Developer License' saying you can develop and evaluate, but not release the database or anything you develop on it into production without getting a regular license.
After install, if you log into SQLPlus as follows
> sqlplus / as sysdba
SQL*Plus: Release 10.2.0.1.0 - Beta on Fri Dec 23 08:39:20 2005
Copyright (c) 1982, 2005, Oracle. All rights reserved.
Connected to:
Oracle Database 10g Express Edition Release 10.2.0.1.0 - Beta
SQL> If you get the "Express Edition Release" banner indicates that you are using the freeware one. (BE aware that the license on the beta expires when Oracle releases the production version - the replacement production version will be free as well, just not beta.)
