Try looking at www.hotsos.com Cary Millsap has some excellent free articles about tracing SQL. 10046 trace is often used when SQLTRACE doesn't provide enough information.

Hotsos has a commercial profiler that is topnotch.

Egor has an excellent open source profiler ...
