Used to be true ... not much so since 9.2.0.4. But my experience with LMT at 8.1.7.4 was that they were a huge improvement.

I presume some things. But some other things are just the nature of physics. LMTs are faster and solve many of the problems of dictionary managed tablespaces. Among those problems solved are the ones you indicate you are dealing with.
