Another important point that people miss is it can be cheaper to buy better hardware and RAID-5 it than lesser hardware with the near-double disks required to RAID 01 it. If the better hardware means you are not running into a maintenance performance issue, then so what? Down the line when you start running into space or performance issues, maybe the disk will be cheaper... or it will be time to upgrade anyways...
