ASM instance is not the same as ASM diskgroups/disk files. The ASM instance itself does not contain a dictionary, and nothing much else, either.

However, after you have cleared all the metadata information from the disks, they are no longer recognizable as ASM disks, therefore leading to what you called "ASM instance corruption".

What needs to be done is to start the ASM instance with NOMOUNT, re-create the DISKGROUPS and perform a database restore.
