Before 10g you had the choice of using vendor clusterware or oracle provided. If you go with 9.2 you still have that choice ... depending on hardware platform.

With 10g you either use oracle clusterware or you don't do RAC.

ASM has some advantages if your database environment is growing rapidly in size or complexity.

If you are wondering where are published benchmarks comparing the performance of RAW ( without ASM ) versus an ASM implementation ... so am I.
