Because you have to.

That you would ask this question requires me to advise you that you are wholly unprepared to touch RAC as you've obviously not read the documentation and don't understand what RAC is. Start by reading the concepts manual.

BTW: In 10gR2 it is called ClusterWare.

3. No inter-vendor finger pointing
4. Optimizes storage of hot blocks
5. It works
