In a *properly* set up tnsnames.ora you DON'T need to change ANYTHING. Time to clean out the mess I guess, and stop using hardcoded IP-addresses.
Oracle 10g also doesn't allow them anymoore

The hosts file wouldn't need to change, as you are using DNS, aren't you.
Yet another thing to change.
