An upcoming version of SQL will support embedding XQuery in SQL and vice-versa.

Dr. Daniela Florescu of Oracle, co-editor of the W3C XQuery spec, has proposed a direction the industry should be taking with XML and XQuery processing:

Dana describes XML as more than a technology for documentation and data interchange. She suggests we haven't exploited XML to its fullest potential.
