FWIW - if by local you mean you are logged directly onto the same box which hosts the database instance, then SQL*NET is NOT required to connect to the database at all.

Did changing the TNSNAMES.ORA file to use the IP# reduce the the connection time from 30 seconds to close to instantaneous? Received on Wed Nov 02 2005 - 12:00:29 CST
