That's like trying to learn to be a car mechanic with no car to work on. Sure, you can read books - google for lists of recommended books, but to learn, you need a machine.

some clues, like operating system, version of db being used and DDL.
The exact text and/or number of error messages is useful (!= "it didn't work!").
