The question is unanswerable as the definition of what DBAs do in different organizations is ... different.

Define the job based on what you want the DBA to do?

  1. Tuning?
  2. Security?
  3. Code reviews?
  4. Upgrades & patches?
  5. Application debugging?
  6. Architecture reviews?

There are a very large number of general areas all of which break down into numerous tasks.
