 One way of convincing rman not to ask for older files is to rename the unwanted files on the local and do a crosscheck. Then you can name the files back, and do another crosscheck when rman is done duping to get them back into rman's frame of reference.

How strange rman gets about wanting older backup sets and such is version dependent.
