I've been reading the docs on restoring a 9i db run in noarchivelog mode to locations different from where the files were when the backup was taken. I have a few questions.

The docs say to do a startup mount pfile=initPROD1.ora

Would I be able to do a startup mount if the system datafile is not in the original location? If I had created a new instance there will be a new system tablespace and datafile, how would I switch it over to the backup copy? Is it simple a matter of "alter database rename file ..." to switch them?

Given the scenario I described above, would the views - v$datafile and v$tablespace be available?

Thanks for your help. Received on Thu Oct 06 2005 - 00:21:37 CDT
