Daniel,

Our migration will not start until at least the end of this year. Our current plans include the creation of a test environment by then followed by a migration of the non-critical databases first. We have a few hundred databases to migrate and estimate that given the application testing required, outages we need to schedule and other issues we will probably finish during the second half of 2007.

We are considering going directly to 10g Rel 2 and with respect to the content of the databases we have both OLTP and OLAP (Warehouse). Some of the apps that use the databases include customer ordering, scheduling, financials, HR and many more. Most of them are in 9i with only a few on 8i due to 3rd party applications issues. Their sizes reach in some in cases a few Terabytes with most of them using 500 Gb or more. Some of the are heavily transacted (e.g customer order) and some also need 24x7 availability.

Can you point me in the right direction as to how to identify mem-interconnect issues related to our schemas?

Also if you have any information and advice about migration tools let me know. We'd like to minimize the downtime due to migration and are looking into tools such as Golden Gate and Quest Shareplex to help us with that. We are also looking into tools that can help creating load testing scripts out our production environment and assist identifying applications that need source code modifications.
